The Get Harmonized Code Details and Search Harmonized Code Data endpoints for V1 of this API are deprecated
Current projects may continue to use deprecated API endpoints. However, for a better classification of Harmonized Code, we recommend updating your integrations to use V2 of the Search Harmonized Code Data endpoint.
This API's Search Harmonized Code Data endpoint provides the ability to search for and retrieve fully qualified Harmonized System (HS) information by providing a few details about your commodity and its destination or origin. The correct HS code and commodity details can help you avoid delays caused by vague goods descriptions and inconsistent or missing classification codes. Accurate HS information also helps you prepare the required documents for items in your shipments.
Note: This API’s search is powered by artificial intelligence. Its results are only suggestions. When creating shipments, validate these results and include them at your own risk. Accurate classifications are ultimately determined by the licensed customs brokers that you use and the customs authorities involved in the shipment.
The simplest harmonized code search requires only a description of the commodity and a destination or origin. This allows you to get HS information even when you don't have complete commodity information.
The more details you provide, the more confident you can be in the results of the search. Use the following fields in your Search Harmonized Code Data request:
commodityName: A name for the commodity. For example: “Athletic running shoes.”
commodityDescription*: A description of the commodity. The more detailed the description, the more effective the search.
destinationCountryCodes*: The destination country or countries to which the commodity will be shipped. Either the destination country or the origin country is required, and you can provide both. Provide the ISO code for the country. For example: “US” or “CA.”
originCountryCode*: The origin country of the commodity. Either the origin country or the destination country is required, and both are accepted. Provide the ISO code for the country. For example: “IN” or “VN.”
countryOfManufacture: The country in which the commodity was manufactured. Provide the ISO code for the country. For example: “VN.”
productId: An alphanumeric identifier or SKU for the product.
categories: The category hierarchy or hierarchies associated with the commodity. For example: “footwear, athletic shoes.”
material: The material of the commodity. For example: “leather.”
unitPrice.amount: A numeric amount for the price of the commodity.
unitPrice.currency: The three-letter code for the currency. For example: “USD.”
*Required fields.
A response to a successful request returns the country code, country type, and a subheadingOptions array that contains up to four possible matches for an HS classification code, the name, a customs description, and an array of up to four possible tarriff alternates. Results within the subheadingOptions array are sorted by the confidenceScore that the system has calculated for the result, with the highest confidence score first. The tarriffAlternates array contains further code and description possibilities if you've included destinationCountryCodes in your request.
Choose the most suitable HS code for the commodity that you’re shipping.
If you provide both a destination country and an origin country, you’ll get HS information applicable to both countries. If you only provide a destination or origin, you’ll get HS information for that destination or origin.
