Overview

This API allows you to process and submit shipping requests to produce a shipping label or return label and cancel shipments before they are tendered.

Supported Services: 

Package shipments (FedEx Express®, FedEx Ground  and FedEx Ground® Economy).

October 11, 2025 Change Log:

New Unauthorized Package Charge and Unauthorized Freight Charge will apply to International and intra-country (excluding intra-country Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand, United Kingdom, and U.S. domestic) express parcel or express freight packages that exceed the maximum dimension or weight limits of our network. These new charges are added to the list of existing surcharges for non-standard shipments, which include:

  • Additional Handling Surcharges (AHS) for dimension, weight, or packaging
  • AHS – Non-Stackable
  • Oversize Charge
  • Ground Unauthorized Package Charge

If a package meets the criteria for more than one surcharge for non-standard shipments, rating hierarchy will determine what charge(s) will apply. Additional information provided in your local ‘Service Guide’.

August 18, 2025 Change Log:

  • Rate for single on-call pickups are now charged at per stop and for regularly scheduled, automated pickups*, rates will be charged weekly based on the selected number of pickup days, regardless of the service type. Surcharges, waivers and discounts are applicable for single on-call and weekly pickup charges.
  • * Applicable only to the U.S (Not applicable for Puerto Rico, and any other US territory) and CA.

  • The following new objects are introduced in the Create Shipment endpoint:
    • processingOptions: Select the enumeration value as INCLUDE_PICKUPRATES for this object to receive on call pickup rates charged at per stop in the response.
    • pickupDetail: is introduced to schedule pickup for a future date. Select the enumeration value as FUTURE_DAY for the field requestType > pickupDetail, this populates the following two fields which will enable you to get accurate pickup rate quotes in the response.
      • requestedShipment.pickupDetail.readyDateTime
      • requestedShipment.pickupDetail.latestPickupDateTime
  • Saturday Pickup service will be termed as Saturday Premium Processing service. A new surcharge will be levied for applicable services.

January 13, 2025 Change Log:

  • Simplified Commodity Shipping: This new shipping feature enables customers to ship goods that are in free circulation within European countries by only providing the commodity description instead of the complete commodity details in the ship request.
  • New healthcare identifier service “Goods distribution practices” introduced.

July 15, 2024 Change Log:

  • A new service FedEx International Deferred Freight (FDF) is introduced. This new global air freight shipping service provides shipping of international air freight shipments at a cost-effective solution with extended delivery/transit times at economical rates. This service is only available for selected country to country lanes.
  • 300 DPI label resolution support is added in addition to existing 203 DPI resolution for thermal printers. No change in label format is required to accommodate the new 300 DPI resolution labels.
  • The Dangerous Goods (DG) by Road special services allow shippers to ship their dangerous goods via road within key European markets. New standaloneBatteryDetails element is introduced as part of the DG by Road initiative under packageSpecialServices object. Under the DG by road initiative in Europe, below new package level special service options are introduced:
    • Standalone Lithium battery shipments
    • Fully Regulated DG by Road
    • Limited Quantity Shipments by Road
    • Genetically Modified (Micro) Organisms
    • Biological Substances Category B
    • Excepted Quantities
    • Radioactive Materials

Feb 19, 2024 Change Log:

New Monitoring and intervention (MI), and HealthCare Identifier (HCID) special service options are introduced. The MI special services option can be selected at the shipment level under the shipmentSpecialServices object, and the HCID special services can be selected at the package level under the packageSpecialServices object while creating the shipment request.

Oct 16, 2023 Change Log:

New FedEx Express Domestic services are introduced for EU region. The individual shipments are facilitated with the following service types:

  • FedEx® First
  • FedEx® Priority Express
  • FedEx® Priority
  • FedEx® Priority Express Freight
  • FedEx® Priority Freight

July 17, 2023 Change Log:

The Collect on Delivery (C.O.D) and Electronic Collect on Delivery (E.C.O.D) options are removed for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground services for the U.S. destination shipments. This will be effective from 31st of July, 2023.

The C.O.D and E.C.O.D services remain unaffected for:

  • Intra-Canada shipments
  • FedEx Ground U.S. to Canada shipments
  • Other regions that support C.O.D and E.C.O.D services

Sep 13, 2022 Change Log:

New element emailreturnshipment is added to the Cancel Shipment endpoint.
The element emailreturnshipment value when set boolean true, identifies the shipment as email return shipment and cancels it.

April 22, 2022 Change Log:

New element cargoAircraftOnly is added –
The element cargoAircraftOnly value when set boolean True, specifies cargo aircraft as the mode of shipment transportation for Dangerous Goods. The default value of this element is set to False.
Note: An identifier DGD-CAO is added in AWB for cargo aircraft shipments.

Feb 19, 2022 Change Log:

  • New object soldTo is added to the request:
    The soldTo object will indicate the party responsible for purchasing the goods shipped from the shipper to the recipient. The Sold to party is not necessarily the recipient or the importer of record. The Sold to party is relevant when the purchaser, rather than the recipient determines when certain customs regulations apply.
  • In shipper/contacts object now either personName or companyName is required and not the both. An error will be returned if both personName and CompanyName are blank or not provided in the request.
