January 22, 2026 Change Log:

We are enhancing the Locations Search API with additional filtering parameters to help you identify Hold at Location (HAL) locations that can accommodate your specific shipment requirements beyond weight and dimensions.

What's Changing?

We are enriching the Finding Locations API request with new optional parameters. This allows shippers to pre-validate that a chosen location can accept a package based on specific shipment limits, ensuring you select the correct location.

While Weight and Dimensions remain foundational, we encourage you to send the following additional request fields, where applicable, to ensure you receive the most accurate and validated list of available HAL locations:

  • Total Customs Value
  • Declared Value
  • Package Type
  • Package Count
  • Special Handling
  • Duties and Taxes payor

The ability to send these parameters will allow FedEx to apply updated limits and business rules configured to provide You with precise location(s) that suit your needs.

Recommendation:

We highly recommend updating your integration with the Finding Locations API to include the new parameters listed above. While the API will still function with only Weight and Dimensions, providing the full shipment context ensures the highest level of validation and precision in the returned HAL location list. Not adopting those new fields might cause delays to the shipments and refusals at the FedEx location.

Note: While the API will still function if you only provide Weight and Dimensions, failure to pre-validate may result in a system error from the Ship API if the selected HAL location cannot accept the package. Utilizing these new fields is key to enhancing your customer's delivery experience and minimizing shipment failures.
