Organization Administration Guide

An organization can be used to view the integration details of various projects along with managing users, accounts, keys and more.

The objective of the administration structure is two-fold:

  1. Provide a way to efficiently manage the various projects that are integrating with FedEx solutions.
  2. Define distinct user roles to effectively manage permissions.

The Organization concept

The organization is the root of everything that happens in the Developer Portal. Representing an association (e.g., a team, group, enterprise), the organization is the parent of project(s) and is used for managing user permissions, creating and assigning projects along with associating shipping accounts.

The Project concept

The project represents a collection of FedEx APIs that have been integrated with your website or application, along with their associated keys, shipping accounts and certifications. Projects can be configured on a case-by-case basis and can be supported by different users.

The User concept

The user represents the team member within an organization and their differing permission levels. Users can contribute, administrate and view projects within an organization.

The Role concept

At a given time, the user can hold one of the following roles: Admin, User and Viewer. Note: The same roles exist for Compatible Providers, albeit with slightly different permissions.

The Viewer has the following permissions:

  • view the keys, APIs and members for the projects they are associated with.
  • view certification status

The User has the following permissions:

  • add/delete projects
  • manage user permissions, keys, accounts and APIs for the projects they are associated with
  • manage the project's keys and members
  • view certification status

The Admin has the following permissions:

  • add/delete an organization
  • add/delete users
  • add/delete projects
  • manage user permissions, keys, accounts and APIs for the organization's projects
  • manage all project keys and members
  • view certification status
